Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers recently announced that $1 million in grant funding has been made available for The Teacher Training and Recruitment Grant Program.
According to WKOW 27 News, the program is provided through the state's Department of Workforce Development's (DWD) Expanded Wisconsin Fast Forward program.
“I’ve always said that what’s best for our kids is what’s best for our state, and that’s why we have prioritized providing resources to our educators and our schools to ensure every kid in every community has access to a quality public education," Evers said in a statement, according to WKOW 27 News.
Nonprofits can apply for up to $500,000 in grant funding to recruit, train and eventually license teachers in line with Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction standards. The training is designed to benefit teachers in low-income and urban areas.
“Investing in our teachers so that they can provide high-quality education is an investment in both our current workforce and future workforce generations,” DWD secretary-designee Amy Pechacek said in the release, according to WKOW 27 News.
In 2020, the program awarded two separate $500,000 grants to the programs in Milwaukee and Greater Madison, which was used to provide training for a total of 172 teachers between the two cities.
The deadline for applications is Friday, March 4.
