Road work, replacing lead pipes and fixing sidewalks are slated for Eau Claire in 2022.

Replacing and updating 100-year-old waterlines underneath the north side's Second Street is on the list, according to WEAU.

“The construction materials have changed since that time frame, so just making sure that we’re bringing up our utility systems to current day standards,” Interim Engineering Director Leah Ness said, according to WEAU.

Cedar, Maple and Folsom streets will also get updates, per WEAU.

They have to wait until the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) finishes work on the left turn lanes of Jeffers Road at North Crossing, according to WEAU.

“With the Jeffers Road Project, that project we’re expecting for full construction to be completed to be approximately five months worth of work,” Ness said, according to WEAU.

According to WEAU, projects won't require a detour but the travel will be impacted.

“There’s a lot of potholes on Jeffers Road – a lot of cracking,” Ness said, per WEAU. “It’s a 24-foot roadway. There’s bicycle and pedestrian demand with the development that’s occurred on the north side.”

Before the work can begin, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation must complete the left turn lane project at Jeffers Road at North Crossing, per WEAU.

“There can be a vehicle that’s coming through the intersection that gets shielded by those cars, so the project is going to move those left turn lanes out of the way of each other, so vehicles can see approaching traffic better as they’re waiting to make a left turn there,” Jim Koenig, a project development supervisor with WisDOT told WEAU.
