Authorities are continuing to probe the death of a 79-year-old Altoona man after classifying it as suspicious considering the nature of the injuries he sustained.
Dennis R. Schattie was found dead in Rockford, Illinois on April 12. WQOW reports that during a recent update on the case, Altoona Police Chief Kelly Bakken provided a few other details about the ongoing investigation.
"Any time a case crosses state lines, and involves multiple jurisdictions, it becomes more complex," she said. "This case is complex."
Bakken said authorities are still awaiting autopsy results from the pathologists before officially changing the case from a suspicious death investigation.
In the meantime, investigators said they have two "people of interest" now being held at the Eau Claire County Jail on probation violations. Bakken added investigators are still working to determine if anyone else was involved in this case.
With Rockford Police assisting in the investigation, Bakken said there is a "substantial" amount of data they have to go through in the case, adding that Altoona police executed 15 search warrants on homes, vehicles and electronics as part of the ongoing probe.
"We want to do a thorough investigation and I am confident that we will get a resolution to this case," she said.
Bakken said investigators are still working to determine if Schattie died in Altoona or Rockford, adding that investigators are "still collecting that data” for answers.
