Participating in recreational sports is normally a large part of college life. Whether it’s the former high school athlete trying to stay competitive or someone trying to find a way to relieve stress, participation in recreational sports carries a multitude of benefits for college students.
Recreational sports began at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in 1922, offering enough reason to celebrate a century of providing students with an opportunity to exercise According to news8000.com, the campus celebrated “100 Years of Playing” recently with alumni, former recreation staff, and current students and staff. The collection of past and present students and staff made for intriguing conversation and spirited participation in games and other forms of fellowship.
“When you have a big milestone it’s important to celebrate it, right?,” UWL director of rec sports Jeff Keenan told news8000.com. “It brings everyone together, and we get to reflect back on the past and also look forward to the future and see what we’re going to do next.”

The rec sports department is using the celebration to jerseys with proceeds benefiting the Recreation Foundation Fun. The funds raise by the T-shirt sales help pay the student activities fees for those who might not have the financial means to do so.
