The sports information director (SID) at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh (UWO) will retire after 37 years with the university.
Kennan Timm heads into retirement with many accolades and awards and will be missed by the entire UWO community, according to a press release from the university.
Timm is a graduate of Oshkosh West High School and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. He began his university sports career with three years at UW-La Crosse before moving to UWO in 1985. After his arrival, UWO earned 35 national and 120 conference titles, the press release noted.
Timm's 37-year tenure, the majority of his 40 years of commitment to UW athletics, is one of the longest in the league.
"It's truly been an honor to play a part, although small, in helping make the UWO Athletics program something special," Timm said in the press release. "I’ve had a tremendous run in the sports information profession and been totally blessed to have had the opportunity to work alongside a fantastic group of administrators, coaches, support staff, student-athletes, community members, and alumni throughout the years. My career brought me friendships, passion, laughter and opportunities, and memories that will last the remainder of my lifetime."
Timm also worked as the host media relations director for more than 80 Division III regional and national championships. He hosted two tournaments on the same weekend twice during his career, the first in the league to do so.
Timm was the local committee chair for UWO baseball for 18 years. He organized three major fundraising events for the program; one raised nearly $300,000. Timm received many honors during his tenure, including being inducted into the College Sports Information Directors of America Hall of Fame in 2012 and the UWO Athletics Hall of Fame in 2021.
He has been called one of the greatest SIDs in history by his colleagues and is a role model for many faculty in the UWO and UW-La Crosse athletics departments, the press release noted.
