WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Derrick Van Orden (WI-03) has called on Vice President Kamala Harris to invoke the 25th Amendment and remove President Joe Biden from office. This call follows President Biden's announcement that he will not seek re-election in 2024 and concerns over his cognitive health.
"We cannot have a Commander in Chief in charge of the nuclear codes who is experiencing the level of cognitive decline that we see in President Biden," said Congressman Van Orden. "In order to restore Americans and our allies’ trust in the United States government, I have requested that Vice President Harris exercise Section 4 of the 25th Amendment to declare that President Biden is unable to discharge the powers and duties required of him as president. The world looks to the United States for leadership and strength, and we cannot reassure the American people or our global partners of this until President Biden is removed from office."
Van Orden authored a letter directly addressing Vice President Harris, urging her to take immediate action for national and global stability.
The letter states: "I write to you with a profound sense of urgency regarding the President of the United States’ inability to perform his constitutional duties as Chief Executive and Commander in Chief. As the leader of the free world, it is paramount that the president is of both sound mind and body. It is readily apparent that President Biden is neither."
He further elaborated on Section 4 of the 25th Amendment, which allows the Vice President to convene principal officers of executive departments to declare a president incapable of performing their duties.
"Given the gravity of the situation, I strongly request that you immediately exercise this authority. You must convene the Cabinet and implore them to declare President Biden incapable of executing the duties of his office," Van Orden wrote.
In addition, Rep. Van Orden has signed onto H.Res. 1336, which calls on Vice President Harris to activate Section 4 of the 25th Amendment for this purpose.
Van Orden concluded by emphasizing his belief that maintaining confidence in government necessitates removing Biden from office: "It is my firm belief that while President Biden remains in office, our country and the world are unnecessarily at risk."
