A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Monroe County Sheriff's Department in Wisconsin on October 22, 2024. The request was made by us at WC Wisconsin News, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
We are seeking all arrest records from January 1, 2024, to the present day under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq. The request specifically asks for these records in an electronic format if possible.
The information we have requested includes several data points such as the arrestee's name, sex, race, age, date of birth and citizenship. Additionally, we are also seeking the booking ID, date of arrest and booking photo. Further details like the name(s) of arresting officer(s), type of crime committed, location of crime and date of crime have also been requested.
As a media organization dedicated to transparency and accountability in public institutions, access to these public records is crucial for our reporting. We believe that this information will help us provide our readers with more detailed and comprehensive coverage of local law enforcement activities.
Given our role in disseminating information to the public and holding public institutions accountable, we have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional.
We await a response from the Monroe County Sheriff's Department regarding this request.
