U.S. Trade Ambassador Katherine Tai recently visited areas of Wisconsin to discuss farmers' needs and plans for the future.
Tai was joined by Rep. Ron Kind (D-WI). State Sen. Brad Pfaff (D-WI) joined the ambassador as well, WXOW reported.
"It was great having @AmbassadorTai here in Wisconsin to hear directly from family farmers about the issues they're facing and discuss how trade can help keep our agricultural tradition strong for generations to come," Kind (D-WI) said in a July 16 tweet. "Thanks for the visit, Ambassador!"
Tai had a private roundtable with local farmers to discuss how to utilize trade to help them out and improve the overall economy, WXOW reported.
"Nothing substitutes for coming out to a dairy farm, meeting the farmers, seeing the human face of our economy, of the farming economy, listening to their dreams, their challenges and having that inform the work we do in Washington, D.C. when we are at the negotiating table," Ambassador Tai said.
Kind spoke on how the recent administration had failed local and small farmers, News8000 reported.
"We wanted to have her come to Western Wisconsin to get direct feedback from our producers and the challenges that they face and how important it is for us to get our trade agenda back on the rails so that we have some of the most productive farmers in the world feeding the rest of the world," Kind said, reported by WXOW.
Kind said that being able to export into markets that need the product they are producing will enable the farmers to get a better price for the hard work that they put in.
WXOW reported that the tour took place at Hamburg Hills Farm, owned and operated by Tim and Lisa Servais.
