Eau Claire's city council recently updated the route for the Eau Claire Marathon in recognition of a bridge currently under repair.
The High Bridge near First Street in Eau Claire was recently shut down for needed repairs, so now runners will run parallel to the river along the pedestrian trail instead of crossing it as usual.
“Check out this fantastic new path that Eau Claire has and just go up the west side of the river to where the High Bridge is, and then you get on the regular course,” Race Director Emi Uelmen said in an interview with WEAU News.
Marathon officials said that precautions will be in place for the event.
"Your safety and well-being is our top priority," according a July 30 Facebook post. "Please know that we are working closely with the Eau Claire City-County Health Department and our Title Sponsor Prevea to make sure that we are taking all the precautions necessary to keep all runners, spectators and volunteers safe."
The marathon was postponed until Sept. 25-26 for this year, but officials are planning to return to the race's traditional time slot in the first week of May 2022. WEAU News reports that 2,000 to 3,000 runners are expected to turn up for the event.
The Eau Claire marathon consists of multiple different races, including a Boston qualifying marathon, a half marathon, a four-person marathon relay, a 5K run/walk and a kid’s fun run.
