Western Wisconsin was recently hammered by strong storms and tornadoes, with winds reaching 95 mph, KARE11 reported.
“Not quite ‘Night of the Twisters’ level, but folks in Jefferson County, Wisconsin dealt with some really nasty storms last night,” storm chaser Sam Sagnella tweeted July 29. “Looks like two simultaneous tornadoes may have occurred twice: first S/W of Watertown around 1:07 a.m., and then along/N of I-94 near Concord 10 min later.”
The storms left thousands of people without power, the Associated Press reported. The storms stretched from the Mississippi River to Lake Michigan.
The damage in St. Croix County was caused by an EF-1 tornado, KSTP reported. Ten to 12 homes were damaged.
"It's unbelievable," Wayne Schumacher, a homeowner in Erin Prairie Township told the station. "Five minutes, maybe. Did all this damage, all this damage in about five minutes."
A tree crashed onto his house, Schumacher said. It also knocked 30 trees on his property and crushed a 100-year-old barn.
A family in River Falls had a similar experience.
"My kids and I were watching from the patio the thunderstorm and we heard a big gust of wind and a huge crack and a boom and we ran inside," resident Alanna Leisen told the station." We almost couldn't push the door inside off the patio."
