The Oct. 6 Eau Claire Memorial sectional featured some great tennis performances by Wisconsin athletes.
Molly Hower, a senior and the top player for Eau Claire Memorial, finished second in the first flight of singles, losing to Wausau West's Mia Bailey in the finals. Hower will continue to state however, for the third time, according to WQOW News.
"I’m just super excited and grateful that I get another chance after sectionals to continue playing," Hower said in an interview with WQOW News. "I love tennis so much and it really means a lot to me to get to keep playing elevated competition when I get to go to state."
Eau Claire Memorial's top doubles team of Katherine Rentzepis and Kimberly Harvey faced adversity in the semi-finals losing their first set to New Richmond's team of Brogan O'Flanagan and Rhea Warner 6-2. They rallied to take the next two sets decisively 6-0 and 6-1.
In the finals, Rentzepis and Harvey defeated Hudson High's team of Kira Young and Grace Lewis 6-3 and 6-4. It's the duo's first sectional doubles title.
Hudson High School had four winning flights, two each in doubles and singles, in the sectional.
The top four finishers in flight 1 singles and doubles along with the top finisher in all other flights will advance to state.
