They may play a game on ice, but the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women’s hockey team is on fire.
The third-ranked Blugolds entered the week of Thanksgiving riding a seven-game winning streak that dates back to their 2021-2022 season opener.
The Leader-Telegram reported that UW-Eau Claire blanked in-state rival fourth-ranked University of Wisconsin-River Falls 2-0 on Nov. 20.
Emma Peterson accounted for the two goals while Stephanie Martin successfully blocked 23 UWRF shots on goal.
“The @UWECWhockey squad was on the winning side of this rivalry matchup,” sports reporter Evan Hong tweeted.
A week before winning the clash of top five squads, the Blugolds notched their sixth win in a row by edging University of Wisconsin-Superior 3-1 on Nov. 13.
According to The Spectator, UW-Eau Claire’s student newspaper, fourth-year forward Hanna Zavoral achieved a hat trick to lift the Blugolds over the Yellowjackets.
“She’s typically a player that once she starts getting momentum, the sky’s the limit for her,” head coach Erik Strand told publication.
Of the seven wins as of this writing, the biggest was the Blugolds’ 10-0 blowout of Northland College earlier this month.
Strand credited his program’s adherence to the game plan in the win over the LumberJills, according to The Spectator.
