Friend,
Welcome back to the November edition of The NEWsflash, a collection of great stories that happened in Northeast Wisconsin during this past month. From christening the USS Marinette to honoring the inaugural Northeast Wisconsin Veteran of the Year, November was filled with events that showcased the best of our community.
I've included some photos and highlights from a few of the events my team and I were able to attend. You can also find information on how my office can help you with any federal problem you may have. As always, please don't hesitate to contact my office if we can ever be of assistance.
Semper Fi,
Breaking Bottles: The Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) 25, the future USS Marinette, was christened this month. The ship, named after the hardworking men and women who work at Marinette Marine, is a fitting way to recognize the incredible contributions the shipyard has made to American security. It was great to see the ship move one step closer to being commissioned.
Fuel Up Fast: A new Scooter's Coffee opened up in Green Bay this month and a member from my staff not only had a chance to grab a cup of their specialty coffee, but also got to taste their homemade pastries. It's great to see businesses like Scooter's opening around Green Bay.
Meeting with Sheriffs: This month, State Senator Andre Jacque, Assemblyman Joel Kitchens, and I held a meeting with Sheriffs from across Northeast Wisconsin to discuss the issues they're facing. We covered a variety of topics ranging from recruiting new officers to ways we can better support law enforcement officials at the state and federal level. We're lucky to have such dedicated men and women keeping our communities safe.
Thanking Our Veterans: I also had the chance to speak at the United Patriotic Society Brown County Veterans Day celebration at the new Resch Expo Center. Being able to share stories and remember the sacrifices of veterans within our community is something that I always cherish. Thank you all for your service.
Sub-lime New Restaurants: Scott's Subs is another business expanding in Northeast Wisconsin and broke ground at their new De Pere location last month. Scott's Subs is known not only for their amazing submarine sandwiches, but also for their handcrafted pizzas too.
A Helping Hand: My team also attended the CASA Breakfast of Champions in November. At the breakfast, they welcomed and swore in new Court Appointed Special Advocates to help abused and neglected children in the court system. These volunteers play a crucial role in supporting local children in need, and my team was grateful to attend and learn more about CASA.
NEW and Improved: The Greater Green Bay Chamber hosted Tech Bash to kick off Startup Week in mid-November to connect the growing tech community in Northeast Wisconsin. Encouraging innovative and forward-thinking companies like these to place roots in NEW is a priority for me, and efforts like Startup Week help foster great relationships between community leaders and entrepreneurs.
Going Green (and Gold): This month a member of my staff attended the Zerology location opening in Green Bay. Zerology is a ride-share and transportation company that uses all electric vehicles and will help give Green Bay residents more options to get around the community.
Celebrating Young Leaders: To top off this month, I had the chance to attend Conner Hawley's Eagle Scout Ceremony, where we celebrated his achievements and leadership as a boy scout. Eagle Scouts like Connor represent the best of Northeast Wisconsin, and I'm excited to see what comes next for him.
Other events from Northeast Wisconsin last month:
