As Wisconsin is seeing record numbers of COVID-19 cases, Rep. Ron Kind is encouraging residents to get their vaccinations.
“It’s more important than ever to follow the advice of our public health experts and if you haven’t done so already, get vaccinated and get boosted. Together, we can help #StopTheSpread,” Kind tweeted recently.
This week, the Wisconsin Department of Public Health Services reported consecutive days of record cases Jan. 4 and 5, the latest numbers available.
"And for the second day in a row, we have a record high new confirmed cases – 10,288. Please protect yourself and your community," the department tweeted.
Percentages of vaccinated residents vary across Wisconsin. In Clark County, 36% of residents have gotten at least one dose of a vaccine. Nearly half of Jackson County residents have gotten at least one dose. La Crosse and Eau Claire have reported 67% and 61%, respectively. Statewide, 62.3% of all eligible Wisconsinites have received at least one dose.
Wisconsin lags behind the national average, where almost 75% of all Americans have gotten at least one dose of a vaccine, according to the Mayo Clinic.
