The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's women's hockey team hit the ice at LaBahn Arena in Madison on Jan. 10 for an exhibition match against the University of Wisconsin Badgers.
The UW Badgers women's hockey team is the top ranked team in their league, but according to The Wisconsin State Journal the team was still excited to face off against another team from Wisconsin for the first time in the program's 23-year history, the Eau Claire Blugolds. The Blugolds are ranked fourth in Division III.
"A special night for hockey in Wisconsin and we'll be there to bring it to you. @UWECWhockey vs @BadgerWHockey from Madison 6:50pm 101.9 http://blugolds.com," Scott Montesano, the voice of the Blugolds, wrote in a Jan. 10 tweet.
The exhibition has been a dream for years and and is finally coming true, thanks to program connections and the hope of promoting women's hockey in the state, the Leader-Telegram reported.
Donated children's books either new or slightly used was the cost of admission to get fans into the game, The Wisconsin State Journal reported.
The Badgers took home the victory and scored 15 goals to the Blugolds single point, and even though the game wasn't close, the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire tweeted "it was a great experience."
