After helping lead the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse gymnastics team to a third-place finish in the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA), Robyn Magee has been named West Region Assistant Coach of the year.
“Congratulations to @UWLgymnastics Assistant Coach Robyn Magee for being named the WIAC Assistant Coach of the Year for the NCGA West Region,” the school posted on Twitter.
At a March 26 event in Ithaca, N.Y., the Eagles posted season highs in overall (192.575), vault (48.400) and floor exercise (48.300), according to the school's website. The team’s overall score of 192.575 ranks as the fourth-highest in school history while the vault total of 48.400 is the second-highest and 48.300 on the floor exercise is tied for 10th.
Kerrie Legault led the way for the Eagles, winning the parallel bars title to become the ninth gymnast in school history to capture a national title. Legault was joined in the winner’s circle by Alex Wood (third in the vault), Rachel Chesley (eighth in the event) and Olivia Opheim (6th on the balance beam), all of whom finished in the Top 10 in their events. All four earned NCGA All-America recognition.
Now in her third-year as an assistant coach, Magee also served as choreographer last season, along with being Director of the Junior Eagles Gymnastics program and UWL's Recruiting Coordinator.
A graduate of Louisiana State University, Magee was a competitive gymnast for 13 years at the regional and national level, finishing her career finished her career as a Level 10 gymnast. In all, Magee has been coaching for seven years and has goals of helping to grow the sport at Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
