Memorial High School in Eau Claire recently received funding to build an addition to an athletic facility.
Construction should be complete by the start of the new academic year.
“Thank you to the Ulrich Trust, created by sisters Connie and Pat, for this incredible investment in our students and our community,” Michael Johnson, superintendent of the school district, told Spectrum News 1. “The trust is truly making a tremendous impact in the Eau Claire Area School District. We are so fortunate to have their partnership.”
Though the students of Eau Claire are now on summer break, some middle and high school students returned to school recently to help with the ceremonial groundbreaking of the new project, Spectrum News 1 reported. The addition to the athletic facility will include restrooms, a concession stand, and an officials’ room.
“It really means a lot to not only our Eau Claire Memorial families but families who travel from near and far to watch their kids compete,” Johnson told WQOW.
The project is funded by a $300,000 donation from the Ulrich Trust, according to Spectrum News 1. The trust previously supported another athletic project at Memorial High School – track and field renovations. The project included a new track and a shot put and discus area; it also cost $300,000.
The Ulrich Trust was created in honor of sisters Pat and Connie Ulrich, who both graduated from Eau Claire High School in the 1940s, according to The 715 Newsroom. Pat worked as a teacher and librarian in several Midwest schools after she graduated from high school. Connie taught physical education and coached at Memorial High School for many years.
The trust is dedicated to providing financial support and educational opportunities for students in Eau Claire, The 715 Newsroom reported.
