Bateaux FC assistant Coach Josh Ranft kept the celebration short and simple following Bateaux's 3-2 win over Union Eau Claire for its third straight Wisconsin Primary Amateur Soccer League (WPASL) championship.
“We did it bud,”Ranft captioned a photo on Twitter of him and Coach Nick Noskowiak hoisting the cup.
Playing at Bollinger Fields on Sunday, Bateaux also needed Lobos FC to fall to Hayward to secure the title. Since rebranding at Bateaux FC from Eau Claire Heat FC three years ago, the team has now earned every single WPASL title.
This time around was like no other, with Bateaux needing major contribution from several players that weren’t a part of the first two titles after a huge turnover in players and a new coach.
“We’ve won two titles, so it’s fair to expect (a third),” Noskowiak told LeaderTelegram.com in the preseason. “With that said, we have new players and a new coach. I’ll put that pressure on them, but they really just need to take it game by game.”
On the season, Bateaux finished 10-2-0, good for 30 points and top standing in league play. The club, founded three seasons ago in 2019 as an original member of the WPASL, said the rebranding was part of an effort to better represent the history of Eau Claire.
Bateaux, meaning boats in French, pays homage to the timber production and river transportation that helped found the city of Eau Claire.
