Tomah Health has made a donation to the Tomah Neighbor for Neighbor Food Pantry, contributing to the holiday season's spirit of giving. The hospital staff and providers collectively decided to donate $3,250, which was presented by Eric Prise, Tomah Health's marketing director. This amount represents an option given to hospital employees to either accept a gift card or donate its equivalent value.
Prise noted that over the past 13 years, these donations have accumulated to more than $30,000 for the local pantry. This annual tradition supports the pantry's operations at 1118 W. Veterans St., Tomah.
Dawn Pleuss, executive director of the food pantry, expressed gratitude for the contribution. "We are going to use our money towards our operational expenses like our gas and electric and doing a lot of pickups with our trucks," Pleuss said. She emphasized the importance of community support in sustaining their services: “We are super grateful for the community that we live in, and everybody that gives us this great gift of money.”
Pleuss also highlighted a concerning trend where food donations decline post-holidays while demand increases. “There’s a lot of people that are just struggling right now and that’s what we’re here for to help out a little bit,” she said. The facility served 646 households last month alone.
