Congressman Derrick Van Orden (WI-03) has introduced new legislation that would block federal funding for entities employing individuals who condone or celebrate political violence and domestic terrorism. The proposal follows reports of people posting on social media in support of the assassination of Charlie Kirk, Co-Founder of Turning Point USA.
“Political violence and politically violent rhetoric have no place in the United States,” said Rep. Van Orden. “Those celebrating or condoning the death of American citizens will not receive federal dollars, period. The time of funding hate is over. These radical individuals will be held accountable.”
Van Orden has been serving as the representative for Wisconsin’s 3rd district since 2023, after succeeding Ron Kind. He secured his seat by defeating Rebecca Cooke in the 2024 general election with 51.3% of the vote and previously defeated Brad Pfaff in 2022 with a similar margin.
