Walkabout Eau Claire

The Chamber, and event partner, Group Health Cooperative of Eau Claire are extremely excited to announce Walkabout Eau Claire, an extension of the annual Wellness Walk. Rather than having only one walking day, we will be holding ten Wednesdays of walking this summer. Each week, there will be a suggested walking path with a short and long route mapped out for your convenience. Maps will be emailed to you on the Monday prior to the next path. Chamber and Group Health Cooperative of Eau Claire staff will be at each weekly path's starting/ending point from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Although each weekly Walkabout Wednesday path is NOT required, participating in the weekly paths will earn you extra points and/or entries for the grand prizes.  We do encourage you to put on those walking shoes as much as possible, and walk 30 minutes every day to hit those fitness goals and maximize your daily points.

The first 500 registrants will receive a free Walkabout Eau Claire t-shirt courtesy of Group Health Cooperative!

Let the competition begin:

Business Competition: Gather your co-workers and get walking! Members of your business can form a team to compete for a company prize. Each team member will register individually, and there will be a spot to indicate what business you are participating with. Once registered, team members will receive their tracking sheet via email confirmation. This will be the method of tracking your walks over the course of the ten weeks. At the final walk, team members will turn in their tracking sheets. Each weekly Walkabout Wednesday Path that team members of your organization walk, will earn TEN EXTRA POINTS for your team. The team with the highest points (in ratio to their team size) wins. The winning business will receive a certificate to Eau Claire Cheese and Deli for $500 to go towards a company lunch.

Individual Competition: Register on the Chamber site to receive your tracking sheet to begin tracking your walks! Once you are registered, you will receive an email confirmation containing a tracking sheet. To be eligible for the grand prize drawing, you must have a minimum of 750 points (one minute = one point) recorded. If you choose to walk the suggested Walkabout Path(s) during the designated time on Wednesdays, a staff member will record your participation. Each weekly Wednesday suggested path you do will earn you ONE EXTRA ENTRY IN THE DRAWING FOR THE GRAND PRIZE. How to track your walks is explained below. At the final walk, individuals will submit their tracking cards. Based on the point totals, a grand prize winner will be selected. The winner will receive a "vacation in your own city." The staycation includes a one-night stay at The Lismore with a complimentary breakfast, a $50 giftcard to Houligan's Steak and Seafood Pub, and two $5 certificates to Olson's Ice Cream.

Tracking Your Walks: Upon registration, you will receive an email confirmation that contains a document in which you will track your minutes. For each day of the week, record UP TO 30 minutes of physical activity. For each minute of physical activity, you will receive one point (i.e. you walked 15 minutes, you get 15 points). YOU MAY NOT RECORD MORE THAN 30 MINUTES.

The Final Walk: The final walk will be held in the Eau Claire Area Chamber's Parking lot. This will be held during the usual 11:00 - 1:00 walking time, and will also kick off the celebration for the National Chamber month. There will be a final walking path, food trucks in the parking lot, and fun! Each individual that participated in Walkabout Eau Claire will drop off their tracking card to a designated area. If participants are unable to attend the final walk celebration, they have the option to mail/drop off their tracking card to the Chamber office no later than Friday, September 3 by 2:00 p.m. The grand prize winners will be announced the following Monday via social media. Winners will also receive emails notifying them that they won.

You will receive more information on the final walk as the date approaches.

Business Grand Prize Winner: A business grand prize winner will be selected based on the amount of points the business earned in ratio to the number of team members that submitted tracking sheets to keep the competition fair between large and small businesses.

Individual Grand Prize Winner: An individual grand prize winner will be randomly selected from all the participants that were eligible to be entered. Individuals registered with a business that meet the individual competition eligibility requirements (refer to "individual competition" section for more details on eligibility), can also be a winner for the individual grand prize of an Eau Claire Staycation.

Please note, the first Walkabout Wednesday path begins June 30, but registration is open ALL summer, so you can register at anytime!
