Following the Taliban's recent takeover of Afghanistan, two U.S. veterans stand together in their disagreement with the Biden administration's withdrawal of troops from the country.
Derrick Van Orden, a former Navy Seal, stood beside Jason Church, a former U.S. Army captain in La Crosse, as Church urged Americans to welcome Afghanistan refugees as a result of the Taliban's recent takeover.
"@JasonChurchWI is an American hero. I am so proud to stand with him and my other brothers and sisters who served our nation," Van Orden tweeted on Aug. 19.
Church said that as the recent events in Afghanistan unfold, wounds have been reopened as he now faces pressure and criticism. Church was previously wounded in Afghanistan by an IED that caused him to lose both of his legs.
"Be the Americans that I wanted to fight for," he said in a video posted to Sen. Ron Johnson's Twitter.
Van Orden also expressed his disapproval for the withdrawn and the incidents that have followed.
"I'm going to do my best to make sure that this never happens again because we can't do this as a nation, this is a completely and wholly bungled operation," Van Orden said in a statement to WQOW.
