Eau Clair County's Deputy District Attorney Peter Rindal has been selected as the county's new chief prosecutor, after former District Attorney Gary King resigned earlier this month.
Gov. Tony Evers (D-WI) appointed Rindal as the new Eau Clair County District Attorney, continuing his career in the DA's office that began in 2013 which has involved felony cases and overseeing other prosecutors, according to WEAU.
"I'd really like for us to be known, sort of statewide, as an office that is very efficient, that is very responsive to both the public and law enforcement, and really focuses resources on serious cases that warrant the most resources," Rindal told WQOW.
Rindal takes over as a replacement for his old boss King, who submitted his resignation in July amidst accusations of sexual harassment and drinking on the job, WQOW reported. Rindal will serve out the remainder of King's term which runs through January of 2025, but has already said he plans to run for the position during the 2024 elections.
According to WEAU, charges were brought against King in June, but were dropped when he announced he'd be resigning.
Rindal's first priority in his new position is filling his old deputy district attorney role, according to WQOW.
