Fall is truly one of the best seasons to witness Wisconsin in all its splendor, and now is the best time to start preparing since the autumnal equinox is hardly a month away.

The week of Oct. 3 is considered one of the best times for a perfect fall leaf viewing trip.

"As we head into autumn, it's never too early to plan a nature hike to enjoy the fall colors with your loved ones. It's a safe, inexpensive activity for all ages and skill levels. @TravelWI has a handy Fall Color Report you can check out before you go," tweeted state Sen. Chris Larson.

For a better idea of where to view the best fall colors in the state this year, consult the Travel Wisconsin page as they have posted lots of advice on this topic.

The article names multiple peaks and mountaintops in Door County and the Northwoods that would be ideal for viewing beautiful scenes of autumn.

It guides viewers through the Great River Road in western Wisconsin through different parks along the way. From Nelson Dewey State Park to Wyalusing State Park, through Rush Creek State natural area and up to Perrot State Park.
