Despite an explosive start to the game, the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse lost to Grand Valley State University (GVSU) last weekend, 45-24.

Ahead of the game, Coach Matt Janus praised his all-purpose running back, Brad Tobin.

“Our Week 3 rotating captain @BradTobin7 does it all,” he wrote. “He’s a running back, a defensive back and plays all of our special teams. Brad is an explosive player that needs to be on the field as much as possible! Couldn’t be happier to have this dude lead us!"

GVSU overcame a seven-point deficit to lead by 10 points with explosive plays in a seven-minute timeframe and never looked back.

The loss was the Eagles first of the season and they head into their bye week 2-1 before taking on the University of Wisconsin-River Falls on the road on Oct. 2.

Janus said that the big plays were too much for the Eagles to overcome.

“I feel like that’s what that game was,” he added. “I feel like there was a haymaker, then we’d try to fight, we’d throw one back, they throw one back and just kind of back and forth.”

The Eagles are led by junior wide receiver Cam Sorenson, senior Brad Tobin and quaterback Jakob Parks.

The Eagles began the season with a 42-21 victory over Dakota State University and followed it up with 38-7 win over University of Dubuque.
