Of the between 12,000 and 13,000 Afghan refugees at Fort McCoy, two of them have been charged with crimes, according to Spectrum News.
"All signs point to the fact that this will be a longer commitment than before, than [the army] expected," Monroe County Chair Cedric Schnitzler said in a Spectrum News article.
For a month, between 12,000 and 13,000 Afghan refugees have been living at Fort McCoy after the U.S. withdrew from Afghanistan, according to Spectrum News.
County officials have not yet provided the date when the refugees will be resettled. Residents of Sparta, a nearby town of 10,000 people have said they are “in the dark” about the resettlement plan, according to Spectrum News.
Bahrullah Noori, 20, has been charged with three counts of attempting to engage in sexual acts with minors (under the age of 16). In one case, he used force. He faces a minimum sentence of 30 years in prison, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Mohammad Haroon Imaad, age 32, is charged with strangling and suffocating his wife. He faces a maximum of 10 years in prison. Both men will appear before a federal judge on Sept. 23, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
