Today, Congressman Derrick Van Orden from Wisconsin's 3rd District announced his appointment to the House Armed Services Committee for the 119th Congress. Van Orden, a former Navy SEAL, expressed his commitment to addressing military challenges and preparing troops for future conflicts.

"I am honored to be appointed to the House Armed Services Committee," Van Orden stated. He emphasized his experience as the longest-serving enlisted military member elected to Congress, highlighting his understanding of servicemembers' challenges and modern threats.

Van Orden criticized the current administration's handling of defense matters. "Under the Biden administration, the Department of Defense has gone so far off mission," he said. He stressed the need for immediate changes to deter global threats and prioritize military readiness.

He also expressed readiness to collaborate with committee colleagues, Chairman Mike Rogers, and President Trump in restoring U.S. military strength. "We must get our military back to a place of prioritizing lethality, recruitment and retention, and securing peace through strength," he added.

Chairman Mike Rogers welcomed Van Orden's appointment. "I am thrilled to welcome Rep. Van Orden to the House Armed Services Committee," Rogers said. He praised Van Orden's service as a Navy SEAL and his advocacy for servicemember quality of life in Congress.

Before entering politics, Van Orden served 26 years in the U.S. military, retiring as a Navy SEAL Senior Chief in 2014. He is recognized for his expertise in Unconventional Warfare and Special Operations within the Special Operation Forces community.
