The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire sports departments said goodbye to January in fine fashion.
Three athletes — senior Sarah Dahlk, senior Stephanie Martin and junior Marcus Weaver — earned Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week titles for the week of Jan. 24-30, the university announced.
Dahlk, a diver, was recognized after a record-setting performance against UW-Whitewater.
“Congratulations to Sarah Dahlk for setting the 3M dual meet school record with a score of 307.4,” Bluegold Swim & Dive said in a tweet on Jan. 29. “The previous record was set in 1995. Way to go Sarah!! #eauhellyes”
On the ice, women’s hockey team played two games and allowed just one goal. Martin, the goalie, played a big part in that defense. The Bluegolds beat UW-Stevens Point in back-to-back games Jan. 28 and 29. The first was a 1-0 shutout, and the second was a 3-1 victory. In 14 games this season, Martin has allowed only 15 goals and has a save percentage of .949, her stats show.
In track and field, Weaver set the NCAA Division III heptathlon record at 5,533 points during the UW-Stouts Warren Bowlus Open Jan. 28-29. In the individual events, Weaver placed second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.25; first in the 60-meter hurdles (8.48); first in the 1,000-meter run (2:55.25); first in the high jump (2.06m); third in the pole vault (4.52); first in the long jump (6.9m) and first in the shot put (14.28m).
