A "great turnout" of perspective teachers has leaders of the Eau Claire Area School District (ECASD) excited about next school year, according to a report by WQOW.
An estimated 130 prospective teachers were interviewed at a two-day hiring event. The district is looking to fill about 80 positions in various departments and schools.
The report said this is the second hiring event following one in December after Superintendent Michael Johnson issued an edict to find additional qualified educators as soon as possible.
"The pandemic has certainly impacted teaching as a whole and as a profession," Brandon Wick, a spokesman for ECASD, told WQOW. "Our teachers have done an excellent job switching from the virtual environment back to face-to-face and supporting that hybrid, and we're impressed with the turnout that we've seen for this event. It's been a great turnout."
Wick said the school district is seeking to fill many different positions but has particular needs for teachers in special ed, technology, math and elementary education. Wick also said the district’s benefits package is an attraction for prospective candidates.
“Everybody's interested in looking at what we have available for next year,” Wick said. “It’s been a strong representation."
Applications are still being accepted.
