The University of Wisconsin Eau Claire is set to welcome Monica Lewinsky as a speaker on Oct. 26 as part of it’s the Forum Series in Zorn Arena.
One of the longest-running programs of its kind in the country, the year’s series opens that night, marking its 80th season of engaging and enlightening presentations by renowned national and global figures.
“Monica Lewinsky has been a leader in the online safety space for some time now,” UW EC Political Science professor Justin Patchin said in a school press release. “Her perspective and platform are invaluable in raising awareness about the harms associated with negative online experiences. I’m excited to welcome her to our campus to discuss what her experiences can teach in making online spaces kinder.”
Lewinsky first burst on the public scene more than two decades ago as an intern in the Clinton White House after her involvement with the President became public. She is now a producer, writer and public speaker who focuses on cyberbullying and social acceptance on online places, specifically for women. She further asserts she takes from her own experiences to create understanding and kindness on social media. Her 2015 TED Talk, titled “The Price of Shame,” has been viewed over 20 million times.
As a producer, Lewinsky was nominated for an Emmy for her work on the public service announcement “In Real Life,” which as a commercial told a story of a tragic outcome stemming from social media bullying.
The event is set to be moderated by Patchin, who also serves as co-director of the Cyberbullying Research Center.
Tickets are now available online at $8.
