WASHINGTON, DC – On May 31, Rep. Derrick Van Orden (WI-3) voted in favor of the Fiscal Responsibility Act, the largest deficit reduction bill in history, that responsibly raises the debt ceiling while stopping out-of-control inflationary spending.
“I did exactly what I said I would do by responsibly raising the debt ceiling, making sure the United States didn’t default on our debt, and making historic spending cuts,” said Van Orden. “The Fiscal Responsibility Act cuts over $2 trillion in government spending while protecting seniors, veterans, farmers, and those most in need by lifting them out of poverty.”
- The Fiscal Responsibility Act also:
- Claws back $29 billion of unobligated, unspent COVID funds.
- Adds work requirements to SNAP, which nearly 80 percent of Wisconsinites support.
- Cuts red tape to streamline energy and infrastructure projects.
- Rejects all of President Biden’s $5 trillion in proposed new tax increases, new government mandates, and new federal programs.
