WASHINGTON, DC – On June 7, Rep. Derrick Van Orden (WI-3) introduced his third Veterans’ Affairs bill of the 118th Congress. The TAP Promotion Act will allow representatives of Veterans Service Organizations (VSOs) to provide information to military members participating in pre-separation counseling under the Transition Assistance Program (TAP).
“The transition from active duty servicemember to veteran occurs in a day, and it’s the most vulnerable time for our military men and women,” said Van Orden. “The TAP Promotion Act will ensure that our military members have as many resources as possible as they transition to civilian life.”
In March, Van Orden introduced the Protect Military Dependents Act, which passed the House of Representatives on May 24. Van Orden also introduced the Ensure Military Personnel Learn Opportunities Yielding Vocations that Employ Transitioning Servicemembers (EMPLOY VETS) Act, which allows transitioning servicemembers to receive information about employment opportunities from the Department of Labor.
