LA CROSSE, WI – Rep. Derrick Van Orden (WI-3) is seeking applications for students interested in attending one of the U.S. military service academies. These are highly competitive programs and we encourage our constituents to reach out to our office sooner rather than later.

“When a young person attends a military service academy, they are not just getting an education – they are learning the leadership skills required to keep our nation strong and free,” said Van Orden. “This is a college degree with a purpose. I am looking forward to working with our committee to identify the most qualified applicants and help get them started on their journey of service.”

A committee composed of retired U.S. military servicemembers and community leaders from across Wisconsin’s Third Congressional District will select nominees based on high school records, ACT or SAT scores, extracurricular activities, letters of recommendation, essay responses, and a private interview.

To apply, students must be an American citizen, at least 17 years old and not yet 23 years old as of July 1, 2024 (or 25 years old for the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy), and a resident of the District. Applications must be received by September 22, 2023 to be considered.

Students interested in applying can find more information at VanOrden.House.Gov/Services/Military-Academy-Nominations, or contact Van Orden’s La Crosse District Office at (608) 782-2558.
