WASHINGTON, DC - Following his vote against the Agriculture, Rural Development, and FDA Appropriations Act last night, Rep. Derrick Van Orden (WI-3) expressed his concerns about the bill's potential impact on Wisconsin farmers.
"Over the past two months, I have voted in support of four single-subject appropriations bills that cut spending while prioritizing the interests of Wisconsinites," said Rep. Van Orden. "Last night, I voted against the Agriculture Appropriations Act out of concern for the steep cuts that would unduly stress America's agriculture industry."
Rep. Van Orden emphasized that although he supports funding requests for public safety in rural communities and Wisconsin's signature dairy and cranberry industries, the bill went too far in cutting important programs for Wisconsin farmers. He believes there is a need to find a balance that implements fiscally responsible changes while ensuring the well-being of farmers."My colleagues from the Midwest stood together to ensure that the Fiscal Responsibility Act protected our corn growers, and we will continue to fight for those who work day in and day out to feed America," added Rep. Van Orden. He also stated his opposition to a government shutdown and expressed support for measures like the Pay Our Troops Act to ensure military servicemembers receive their paychecks.Rep. Van Orden remains committed to working collaboratively to deliver a product that adequately serves both the agriculture industry and families in need. For more information, please visit Rep.
