A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Town of Gilman on November 7, 2024, by WC Wisconsin News. The request specifically asked for a list of new voters who registered to vote on November 5, 2024.
As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at WC Wisconsin News believe that access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
The FOIA request was made under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., and it was requested that the information be provided in an electronic format. As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we also requested a fee waiver as part of our role in disseminating information.
We continue to await a response from the Town of Gilman regarding this request.
