Monroe County's districts student body comprised mostly of white students in 2024-25 school year

The majority of students in Monroe County districts were white in the 2024-25 school year, according to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.

Of the 6,986 students attending Monroe County district schools, 78.5% were white. Hispanic students were the second largest ethnic group within Monroe County's districts, making up 13% of the student body.

In the previous school year, white students were also the most common group in Monroe County districts, representing 79.2% of the student body.

Sparta Area School District and Tomah Area School District had the most diverse student body in the county, which included American Indian, Asian, African American, Hispanic, Pacific Islander, multiracial, and white.

In the 2024-25 school year, the total number of students enrolled in school districts in the county dropped to 1.8% compared to the previous year.

The main offices of all districts mentioned in the story are located in cities associated with Monroe County.

Wisconsin's lawmakers have approved over $5.5 billion in funding for schools for the 2024-25 school year, a 4.2% increase from the previous year. The budget allocates an additional $325 per pupil aid for each year of the biennium, as well as more than $90 million in increased funding for special education.
