Today, Congressman Derrick Van Orden of Wisconsin's 3rd District announced his support for H.R.1, known as the One, Big, Beautiful Bill. The legislation aims to provide tax relief and protect essential programs such as SNAP and Medicaid.
Van Orden expressed optimism about the bill's impact on various American demographics, stating: “This bill is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Americans – our seniors, veterans, families, farmers, manufacturers, and most vulnerable populations.”
He criticized Democratic opposition to the bill by saying: “My Democrat colleagues have been fearmongering and pushing blatant lies from day one, and that ends now. When this beautiful bill reaches President Trump’s desk, Americans will see their taxes go down, wages go up, and integrity and stability restored in critical programs like SNAP and Medicaid.”
The congressman emphasized that the bill reflects the priorities of those he represents: “This is what delivering real results for the people I represent looks like and what 77 million Americans and 1.7 Wisconsinites voted for.”
Key elements of the legislation include measures to prevent over two million family-owned farms from being affected by the Death Tax so they can be passed to future generations. It also seeks to make permanent certain provisions of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act to avert a potential 25% tax increase on Wisconsin families.
Additionally, it proposes making permanent an increased Small Business Deduction at 23%, eliminating taxes on overtime pay and tipped wages, providing substantial tax relief for low- and middle-income seniors, and increasing funding for border security measures.
