Western Technical College has announced a new Early Childhood Education (ECE) Apprenticeship program in partnership with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development. The initiative is supported by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, part of the Apprenticeships for Rural Regions Innovating Vocational Education (ARRIVE) program. This effort aims to create pathways for rural students into various apprenticeship opportunities.
The ECE Apprenticeship will require two years to complete and includes 4,000 hours of on-the-job training. Course materials will be accessible online to fit student schedules.
“The apprenticeship model continues to grow outside of its once traditional occupations, such as construction electrician and plumbing,” said Western President Roger Stanford. “We are excited to develop innovative ways, with help from the federal government, to get students out into the workforce quickly and more efficiently. And with the childhood educator shortage in our region, this work could not be more important.”
The program is set to begin this fall. More information can be found at www.westerntc.edu/ECE-apprenticeship.
