Shane Landrath from Richland Center has been appointed as the 2025-26 Student Ambassador for Western Technical College. In this role, he will serve as an official spokesperson for the college within the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS).

As a Student Ambassador, Landrath will engage with potential students, community leaders, and groups to highlight the significance of technical and occupational education. He will also collaborate with other student ambassadors across WTCS at the state level.

Currently in his second year studying Criminal Justice at Western, Landrath chose the college for its emphasis on workforce development and its capacity to address regional needs. He credits various student support systems at Western for aiding his academic journey.

“There is support at every corner at Western. Whether you need financial assistance, emergency help, or guidance navigating life’s challenges, Western has the resources in place to ensure you are not alone,” said Landrath. “Asking for help or relying on the support of others is not a sign of weakness – it’s part of what makes success meaningful. Western fosters an environment where it’s okay to lean on others, and that’s what makes it such a special place to learn and grow.”

Landrath has been actively involved in public safety since 2023 as a Senior Campus Community Safety Officer at Western. He joined the La Crosse Police Department Reserves in 2024 and serves as a Police Reserve Sergeant with the La Crescent Police Department. Post-graduation, he aims to pursue further education towards becoming a police officer.

“Empathy is central to who I am,” said Landrath. “I’ve faced my share of struggles, and I understand that many people are navigating their own challenges, often quietly. That’s why I aim to meet others where they are, offering kindness, understanding, and connection to resources that can make a difference.”
