Western Technical College in La Crosse, Wisconsin, hosted a Ukrainian delegation this week as part of the Open World Leadership Center’s international exchange program. The visit was coordinated locally by Rotary and focused on Western’s Health Information Technology program.
The group spent an afternoon touring the college’s facilities, including the XR Lab where students use virtual reality to practice healthcare skills. Delegates also discussed health technology education with faculty members.
“This information is to be usable for us in the future, to implement some sort of things in our country,” said delegate Andrii Skopets. “Some solutions are pretty simple but if you think about them very much, they look so brilliant.”
Skopets described the experience as “fun, easy, and educational,” and commended both faculty and community members for their openness and willingness to share knowledge.
The Open World program is a congressional initiative that brings emerging leaders from countries such as Ukraine, Georgia, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan to the United States for knowledge exchange. Since its inception, nearly 30,000 delegates have participated in the program with Rotary clubs across 280 U.S. cities serving as hosts.
