The Democratic Party of Wisconsin kicked off its One Year to Win weekend of action last weekend in La Crosse and Eau Claire, rallying voters ahead of the 2022 election.
In a report by News 8000, Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler said he has been impressed by the turn out from members of both parties rallying together, including the La Crosse event at Java Vino on State Road.
“I thought in 2021 people would be sick of politics, they wouldn’t want to come anywhere near volunteering, but on both sides, I think there’s a tremendous amount of energy," Wikler told News 8000. "Democrats were shooting for twice the amount of doors knocked and voters reached than we did before the Trump election in 2020."
According to the St. Croix Democrats website, throughout the weekend, Democrats across Wisconsin made phone calls and talked to voters. Two of the main goals of the One Year to Win campaign include the re-election of Gov. Tony Evers and the voting of Sen. Ron Johnson out of office.
Evers announced in June that he would run for re-election, according to a report by the Wisconsin Public Radio. Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch, a Republican who has been involved in Wisconsin politics for more than a decade, announced in September that she would be running for governor opposite Evers.
Fox News reports that as of late September, Johnson had not yet announced whether he will seek re-election in 2022.
