Charlie Berens sighs as his first La Crosse show was one for the ages.
“Prolly, one of the most unique shows I’ve ever done,” Berens told WIZM News after the Wisconsin based comedian and founder of the Manitowoc Minute recently took the stage for back-to-back comedy shows there Oct. 15.
During the performance, La Crosse Mayor, Mitch Reynolds, presented Berens with a key to the city for his work representing the state.
Across the city, Oct. 15 was also celebrated as ‘Charlie Berens Day,’ according WIZM.
Following his performance, Behrens wasted little time stamping the show as one of the most unique he’s been a part of marveling at how fans brought him drinks to the point of excess. He said at some point, they even started buying the drinks back off of the stage, with all the money going to charity.
Berens also auctioned off a cow piggy bank that someone brought for $1,500, WIZM reported. The funds will reportedly be donated to veterans.
Fans also brought Berens cheese curds that he branded as “quite tasty.”
“I had nowhere to set them, so I ended up setting them on the key to the city, which is very symbolic if you think about it,” he said.
Berens ended the night with a rendition of a Manitowoc Minute, which is what first made him famous. The crowd saluted him with a standing ovation.
