This week, two bills introduced by Congressman Derrick Van Orden aimed at helping veterans in their education passed the House. The Veterans Education Transparency and Training (VETT) Act and the Montgomery GI Bill Selected Reserves (MGIB-SR) Tuition Fairness Act were developed to remove educational obstacles and assist the shift from active-duty service to civilian life.

The VETT Act seeks to streamline the enrollment process for veterans in higher education by adjusting form requirements. It also plans to create an online portal that provides a comprehensive resource center for training, available through School Certifying Officials (SCOs).

The MGIB-SR Tuition Fairness Act requires public higher education institutions to offer in-state tuition rates to veterans using the Montgomery GI Bill Selected Reserves. This initiative, directed by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, is aimed at improving access to educational opportunities for veterans.

Congressman Van Orden expressed his support for the bills while speaking on the House Floor before their passage.
