Tomah Health marked Doctors' Day by donating to local nonprofits as a gesture of appreciation for area doctors and their contributions to the community. On March 31, Dr. Jill Boulden, the medical operations director at Tomah Health, presented two $1,000 ceremonial checks to Chasing Daylight Animal Shelter and Families First of Monroe County.

"We are very fortunate to have a great medical staff that helps us provide quality health care services to Tomah and the surrounding communities 365 days a year," stated Dr. Jill Boulden. "As a community hospital, the recognition is an important way to support organizations that share in the hospital's mission and a small way to show our appreciation to area health care professionals."

Chasing Daylight Animal Shelter treasurer Sharel Martin expressed gratitude, emphasizing the donation's significance. "The funds are extremely appreciated more than anybody probably realizes. We do not receive any governmental funds from anybody, so we are highly dependent and reliant on the community supporting us. Those funds are a necessity to our function to allow us to provide the medical care that the animals need," she shared.

Jessica Grauel, a board member at Families First of Monroe County, highlighted the impact of the donation. "The funds that we attain in our county all stay in our county and are used to serve citizens of our county that need any kind of financial assistance, primarily families, elderly and disabled," she explained. "I feel people need it the most now, just the way the economy is, so anything that we can get is very much welcomed."

Families First was founded in 1994 by the Monroe County Planning Council and focuses on helping individuals and families in crisis in Monroe County.

Tomah Health has been making these annual donations to honor Doctors' Day for more than 15 years. Doctors' Day has been nationally recognized since 1990 when legislation was signed into law by President George Bush, following the first observance in Georgia on March 30, 1933.
