The University of Wisconsin-River Falls (UWRF) has been recognized by the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) for its commitment to actuarial education, achieving Bronze Tier status in the CAS University Recognition Program. The program honors academic institutions that demonstrate a dedication to preparing students for careers as property and casualty actuaries.

The CAS, an organization serving over 10,000 members worldwide, is focused on property and casualty risks. Its members are employed in a variety of sectors including insurance companies, educational institutions, government agencies, and consulting firms.

Victor Carter-Bey, CEO of the Casualty Actuarial Society, stated: “We are pleased to honor universities through the CAS University Recognition Program. Recognition at the Bronze Tier demonstrates that University of Wisconsin-River Falls is committed to exposing their students to the property and casualty actuarial career path through their participation in the CAS University Liaison, Student Central, Student Ambassador, and Academic Central Programs.”

The recognition program features three levels—Bronze, Silver, and Gold—each with specific benefits tailored to university needs at each tier. As part of this recognition, UWRF will be listed on the official CAS University Recognition list available on both the CAS website and associated platforms for students interested in actuarial careers.

UWRF has also received acknowledgment from the Society of Actuaries (SOA), being listed among universities with introductory actuarial programs. After reviewing course syllabi from UWRF, SOA approved several courses covering economics, accounting and finance, mathematical statistics, as well as preparation for SOA exams in probability and financial mathematics. The university is featured on the SOA Explorer map with a dedicated profile page outlining faculty contacts and curriculum details.

Michael Loper, assistant professor of mathematics at UWRF said: “These recognitions from the Casualty Actuarial Society and the Society of Actuaries affirm the strength and growing reputation of our actuarial science program at UWRF. For students, this means access to a curriculum that meets national standards and prepares them for success in one of the most respected and rewarding analytical careers. Beyond the classroom, our active Actuarial Club connects students with industry professionals, peer support and valuable career resources. Actuarial science offers the opportunity to apply mathematics and problem-solving skills to real-world challenges in risk management, finance, consulting and insurance. It’s an exciting, impactful field with strong career prospects and we’re proud to help our students take those first steps toward it.”
